Hockey Cup Match Reports – 2nd Feb 2012
Minor Cup
Minor A’s drew 2-2 after extra time with St Andrews last Wednesday only to lose out on the new ‘one verses goalie’ decider. In a very even game, Rathdown took the lead mid way through the 2nd half when Meriel Barnwell scored from a short corner. St Andrews replied with a goal which sent the game to extra time. Sophie Hickey scored from another well worked short corner only for St Andrews to equalise once again with minutes to go. St Andrew’s came out on top in the ‘one verses goalie’ decider which has replaced penalty flicks.
Well done girls on a great display.
Senior Cup Quarter Final
On a freezing evening, our Senior 1st’s did us proud with a fighting display against Muckross. Unfortunately the girls lost 2-3. Having taken the lead in the first half with goal by Milly Barnwell, Muckross struck back when they caught Rathdown on the break to level the scores. Muckross raced into a 1-3 lead mid way through the second half. However, full credit to the Rathdown girls who never gave up. Orla Macken scored from a corner to make it 2-3, a grandstand finished ensued. Rathdown did have the ball in the net in final play of the game but it was ruled out for an infringement.

BASKETBALL UPDATE – 31st Jan 2012
Basketball training will continue for seniors and cadettes until St Patricks weekend despite having finished their league. Training as normal with Eoin Chubb on Monday’s and Thursdays
Minor A and B and Junior C had convincing wins against Mount Anville this weekend away so well done to them. Minor B will play this Friday against Rockford Manor at home.
