Hillcourt House – a period property which accommodates Junior School Students to Fourth Year (Senior School) Pupils – has recently been refurbished to offer comfortable and functional space where the girls forge bonds of friendship and camaraderie. Spaces are large and accommodate two, four, six to seven girls per dormitory. Two Common Rooms are housed in Hillcourt House where six computers, pianos television and DVD player and an Air Hockey table are available to all boarder girls after school, in the evenings during Break of Prep and at weekends.
Innismore House – Opened in 2004, the House is a three-storied purpose-built modern structure offering each pupil her own study/bedroom . The facility houses Fifth and Sixth Year girls. Ample and shower facilities are located on each floor. A television lounge and kitchen enhances the opportunity for sociability, privilege and responsibility for both Fifth and Sixth Years. Girls have an oven, ‘George Foreman’, juicer, toaster and microwave, a blender for making Smoothies. These senior girls are encouraged to look after and tidy up their own kitchen and television lounge areas each evening. There are Housekeepers to maintain both building.
Sixth Year boarders, together with their peer day girls, have their own Common Room – furnished as a ‘den’ – their own multi-purpose space for which they take responsibility – located between the school and Boarding House. All girls in both Houses take their Green School status seriously and take pride in advancing measures to ensure a low-grade ‘carbon footprint’.
Boarder Mentors/Buddies from the Senior House are assigned to the younger pupils; They assist and advise on an on-going basis, when required, during the academic year and are available to junior girls as support at any time. Social functions are arranged throughout the year so that the girls can get to know each other in a casual and enjoyable environment.
Merit cards for punctuality, keeping their personal spaces neat and tidy, co-operation in their Boarding Houses and overall team spirit have been devised to encourage a positive and constructive attitude.
Both Houses have laptop and wireless connections. Time of usage is scheduled in Hillcourt House. The service ceases at 11p.m. in both Houses. Mobile telephones are permitted in both Houses with scheduled use for the girls in Hillcourt House. Pupils are scheduled for music practice in a suite of Practice Rooms in the Music Department downstairs in Innismore House each evening and the Music Technology Room is also available for use on a scheduled basis when required.
Pupils are encouraged to put their names forward for both the Boarders Council and the Food Council. These groups are chaired by two Sixth Years representative and a representative from each Year. Boarder concerns and ideas are discussed and the Head of Boarding attends and is their Link Person who tries to implement new ideas and suggestions. Liaison between the Food Council. the Catering Manager and Head of Boarding is held formally throughout the school year. If concerns arise, the group makes contact with the Catering Manager at any time through the Head of Boarding and arrange to meet for discussion. Weekly menus are available On Line.
