TRIP TO SOUTH OF IRELAND (May 2012)
The International Students took off on bank holiday Monday to the South of Ireland. They enjoyed a visit to the Crag Cave and touring the fabulous Ring of Kerry and its many features (Muckross House and Waterfall/Ross Castle). They also discovered the many shopping charms of Killarney and Tralee.
For many, it was their last visit to yet again another corner of this Island. We wish them all a safe return to their own country and to their families and we hope they will keep a happy memory of their time in Rathdown School and in Ireland! Slán!
On Friday 27th April, the 5th year French class got on the Dart to Howth where they were taught to cook a succulent French meal. Special thanks to Alix St. Laurence Gainsford (who organised the event) and Edwina St. Laurence who instructed the girls.
International Trip to Newgrange (27th January 2012)
The International Students enjoyed on 27th January a trip to the Boyne Valley. They visited Monasterboice with its most famous three High Crosses; Mellifont Abbey (the first Cistercian monastery in Ireland). They saluted on the way St Patrick on the Hill of Slane before enjoying one of the most visited site in the world… the famous Megalithic passage tomb at Newgrange!
Boarders get into the festive mood! (Dec 7th 2011)
Last weekend, the Boarders got into the Christmas spirit with a trip into Dublin City to see the festive lights. They enjoyed seeing Grafton Street illuminated so wonderfully and really got them into the Christmas atmosphere – helped of course by a quick hot chocolate in Starbucks on the way!
After enjoying the lights and shop windows and an essential stop in McDonalds in Blackrock en route, the girls went for a nightime stroll along Dun Laoghaire Pier and enjoyed the lights along the promenade!
Escapade to scenic West of Ireland (Nov 2011)
The International Students set off on a journey of discovery to the famous limestone karst landscape of the Burren. They then headed towards the rugged Atlantic coastline with the fabulous Cliffs of Moher. On the second day, they all travelled through Connemara to Kylemore Abbey via Clifden. Later on that day they spent some ‘quality time’ hanging out in Medieval Galway City where they truly enjoyed the streets festival atmosphere.
On our way back to Dublin we had a guided tour of the monastic site of Clonmacnoise. The fine weather made it a very successful trip. I do hope all the girls will keep a special memory of the beautiful West of Ireland. A special thanks to Mrs. O’Driscoll and the Chauffeur/Tour Guide Brian King.
